Abstract:

The desulfurization wastewater produced by the desulfurization process of coal-fired power plants has the characteristics of high salinity, corrosiveness and scaling, which is the most difficult part in the treatment of wastewater. The characteristics of desulfurization wastewater-assisted coal electrolysis were studied based on H-type electrolytic cell, so as to realize the simultaneous utilization of desulfurization wastewater and excess power from coal-fired power plants. The results show that the electrolytic performance of desulfurization wastewater after acidification is significantly higher than that of water, which can reduce the power consumption of hydrogen production by electrolysis. Desulfurization wastewater alone cannot promote the electrical oxidation of coal, so iron ions are still needed to be added as catalyst. Unacidified desulfurization wastewater can promote the catalytic effect of iron ions, thereby further reducing the power consumption of hydrogen production. Based on this, three possible processes of desulfurization wastewater electrolysis for hydrogen production, including acidification treatment, direct utilization and pulverized coal addition, were proposed.
